Abstract or Additional Information

We explore how the pursuit of the "linear algebraic heart" of inequalities for volumes of convex bodies can lead one to the notion of Lorentzian polynomials, introduced by June Huh and Petter Branden.  Along the way, we will find that the combinatorial notion of matroids naturally enters into the picture as a discrete analogue of convexity.
