Abstract or Additional Information

In 1872, Karl Weierstrass gave the first example of a scale of everywherere continuous, nowhere differentiable functions. G.H. Hardy gave another proof of nowhere differentiability in 1916 which extended the Weierstrass result to a larger class of functions. In this talk, we present a simple new proof of the Weierstrass-Hardy result due to Jon Johnsen. The proof relies on some basic propeties of the Fourier transform, which will be outlined in the talk.

This talk will be from 2:30-3:30 Tuesday in Thackeray 704.
