Abstract or Additional Information
In this talk I will give an introduction of basic notions of rigidity and infinitesimal rigidity of surfaces in R^3. I will present some classical theorems about the rigidity of C^2 surfaces. I will also discuss surprising failures of rigidity with a weakening of hypotheses. New research in this area looks to find new classes of functions for which we can obtain similar results.
