Abstract or Additional Information

In this talk, I will explain the geometric and analytic properties that make the Heisenberg Group interesting for mathematical research. The Heisenberg Group may be viewed as our familiar 3 dimensional Eucludean space on which a new geometry has been defined. I will address the notions of length, distance, and "horizontality" in the group. As an example of this new geometry, I will discuss the structure of geodesic curves in the Heisenberg Group.
