Congratulations to Graduate student Anna Thomas, who won not just one but two awards at the 2025 SIAM Conference on Applications of Dynamical Systems. The conference turned out to be a busy occasion for awards to Pitt Mathematics department members!  Anna was one of four winners of the best poster prize, affectionately known as the “Red Sock Award,” for her poster on her thesis research at the meeting.  Anna was also a winner of the DSWeb Tutorial Award for her work, together with Matteo Martin of University of Padua, on the XPPLORE toolbox, which automates the use of output from Dr. Ermentrout’s XPPAUT dynamical systems software.

Professor Bard Ermentrout was awarded the Juergen Moser Lecture prize for his “broad and seminal contributions to mathematical biology, including pioneering work on mathematical and computational neuroscience, dynamical systems, and pattern formation.”  As chair of the SIAM Activity Group on Dynamical System, Professor Jonathan Rubin presented Dr. Ermentrout with his award and introduced his prize talk, “Not Just Another Pretty Phase:  The Use of Phase Models in Neuroscience and Biology.”
