### Abstract or Additional Information

Let $\mathcal{H}_{g,n}$ denote the moduli space of hyperelliptic curves of genus $g$ with $n$ marked points. In preparation for next week's talk by Adrian Diaconu, I will discuss the basic results concerning counting the number of points of $\mathcal{H}_{g,n}$ over a finite field (or, equivalently, the $\ell$-adic equivariant Euler characteristic of $\mathcal{H}_{g,n}$ with coefficients in local systems) and the cohomological stability theorem of J. Bergström.
