Macdonald polynomial operators and coinvariant rings

We discuss some of the combinatorics and algebra associated with the "Delta Conjecture" of Remmel, Wilson, and the speaker. The conjecture invovles certain operators on Macdonald symmetric functions which Haiman has shown give characters of symmetric group modules, and are connected to the study of coinvariant rings. Statistics on lattice paths and parking functions arise in the associated combinatorics.
