Title: Analysis on metric spaces
Metric spaces, defined by M. Frechet in 1905, have found numerous applications in analysis. However, analysis on metric spaces as we know it is a new branch of mathematics, less than 30 years old. What is analysis on metric spaces, then? What is it concerned with? The aim of this lecture is to sketch briefly a few of the main topics of this new direction of research which has turned out to be important enough to have its own Mathematics Subject Classification number, 30Lxx.
The lecture will be in English.
