The Department of Mathematics is pleased to announce that four of our graduate students have been awarded Mellon Fellowships for the 2026–2027 academic year: Abhiram Kumar, Anna Kishida Thomas, Akshara Vincent, and Wei Wei.
These awards recognize outstanding research achievement and academic excellence. Akshara Vincent works in partial differential equations, with a focus on questions of smoothness and roughness of solutions. Abhiram Kumar works in number theory, studying ideal class groups of number fields through methods from Iwasawa theory. Wei Wei works in fluid dynamics, focusing on the zero-viscosity limit for incompressible viscous fluids with permeable boundaries. Anna Kishida Thomas works at the intersection of mathematics and neuroscience, developing and analyzing computational models related to Parkinson’s disease.
