Undergraduate Degree Requirements

The Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Mathematics

Students will be required to take 61 credits, of which 46 will be in Mathematics
and Statistics. Each of these courses must be taken for a letter grade, and a
grade of C or better must be earned in each. Specific requirements are:

  1. (12 cr) Calculus I, II, III – Math 0220, 0230, 0240
  2. (4 cr) Introduction to Theoretical Mathematics – Math 0413 or Math 0450
  3. (3 cr) Linear Algebra – Math 1180 or 1185
  4. (3 cr) Ordinary Differential Equations – Math 1270
  5. (6 cr) Actuarial Mathematics – Math 1120 and 1121
  6. (3 cr) Numerical Methods – Math 1070 or 1080
  7. (6 cr) Applied Mathematics – two courses from among Math 1110, 1280,
    1360, 1470, 1480
  8. (9 cr) Economics – Econ 1100, 1110,2 and 1150
  9. (3 cr) Computer Science – CS 0004 or CS 0132 or Engineering 0012
  10. (9 cr) Statistics – Stat 1151 and 1152, and either Stat 1731 or 1321
  11. (3 cr) Business – Bus Fin 1311 or Econ 1440

The required courses include 9 credits of statistics and 9 or 12 credits of
Economics. Actuarial Mathematics majors can fulfill the A&S related area
credit by taking additional Statistics or Economics courses to reach a total of
12 credits in one of these areas.
